December Meeting / Christmas Party
A delicious meal of prime rib and chicken was enjoyed by about 40 members at Alfred & Charlies Restaurant during our annual Christmas party on December 3rd. Alfred and his staff provided a beautiful room and festive atmosphere. Special thanks go to Paula Weant for organizing the party, and to Linda Wilkes for providing gifts for everyone. Thanks also to President Jack Moore of Cycling and Fitness for the door prizes.
Race & Event Results
Suzanne Clemmer Carries the
Torch!
Club member Suzanne Clemmer was honored by the privilege of carrying the Olympic torch as it makes its way to Utah for the 2002 Winter Olympic games. Suzanne, an accomplished runner and registered nurse at a pediatric practice, was nominated by a former teacher, Sharon Hill, from East Gaston High School. Suzanne was signed up as a reserve runner. Tragically, the designated torchbearer died just before the relay, so the honor and task of carrying the torch came to Suzanne on Wednesday, December 5th in Hickory, NC. Suzanne has obtained a replica torch as a souvenir.
Jingle Bell Run / Walk through McAdenville - Tuesday, December 4th at 6:30pm

Thanks to Paula Weant for providing bells for our sneakers, and to Ronald Hutchins for the Santa hats and reindeer antlers. Participating were John Price, Jim & Paula Weant, Troy Bush & Margot Rott, Ronald Hutchins & Suzanne Clemmer, Chris Baucom, Nancy Dartnall, Charlene Angel, John & Mary Clayton, Elizabeth Barker, Junior Nations, Michele Jarbeau & Rodney Sawyer, Dean Bush & Lisa Busha, a friend of Deans and one or two others that Ive forgotten (please accept editors apology).

Go Figure - Cycling better than Viagra
? A recent Italian study has shown that riding a bike three times a week can be as good as taking Viagra to improve sexual function for men with weak heart muscles. The study was conducted by Dr. Romualdo Belardinelli, director of the Lancisi Heart Institute in Ancona, Italy and reported his findings at an American Heart Association conference in Anaheim, California.Careful readers of our Coastin newsletter will have noticed Barry Lees name mentioned numerous times as a successful triathlete this past year. As a Urologist and a surgeon, Barry has unequaled access to the magic pill, and he and his wife have four wonderful, young children. So tell us, Barry, what accounts for the big family is it the cycling or Viagra?
