Dog Days of Dallas report:
An excellent turnout of 152 riders registered and rode in the
annual Dog Days of Dallas ride on July 8th. About 25 riders rode the 25 mile route, and
the rest split evenly between the 45 and 64 mile courses. For a cost of only $8, riders were treated
to a well-marked course, a rolling sag, several water stops, and pizza at the
end of the ride. Cloudy skies made for
cooler weather than usual, but some riders had to finish in a light rain.
Thanks go to Melissa Magee for organizing and running the
event. Special thanks also go to
Stephen and Leanne Dow for providing the rolling sag, and to Beverly Bradshaw
& Wendy Pender for manning the water stops.

Lowe’s Motor Speedway Time Trials Concord, NC Lowes Motor Speedway Time Trial, 10 miles, August 15, 2001:
118 riders: Tommy Jones 24:41 51st, Jay Beam 25:43 64th, John Price: 26:22 77th, Joe Price (John’s brother from Concord) 27:55 95th.
Hilly Hellacious: August 19th, 2001, Fletcher, NC. (101 miles) Dan Splawn, Jr; John Price
editor’s note: Sponsored by the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, Hilly Hellacious is a 101 mile ride in its 24th year. The start/finish area is at Cane Creek Cycling in Fletcher, NC. The route, reversed from 2000, has 7600 ft of climbing including an energy sapping, knee shredding 15% ¼ mile hill at the 6 mile mark. Apple orchards line many of the roads, with trees almost at the very edge. As a consequence of all the climbing, there are lots of fun, high speed descents. The most dicey curves are denoted with special markings. The route passes through the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and Bat Cave areas. The $25 entry fee included a t-shirt and post-ride meal.

Chris
Baucom:
did not finish, swim: 26:12 59/290
Chris was flying in the bike portion, flatted, repaired the flat, and
then flatted again moments later. The
moral of this story: Don’t get any
flats.
