Carl Andersen Memorial Ride Report 2003
This event, ridden in memory of Carl Andersen, was sponsored by the Gaston
County Cyclists on Sunday, October 12, 2003, and attracted 69 riders to the
challenging routes. Riders chose either the 61 mile or 39 mile course, both of which
started & ended together at Crowders Mtn State Park.
Some course improvements this year included the addition of Antioch Rd on the 61 miler,
which reduced the total mileage by 3 miles, making it a true metric century. This change
also kept riders from the busy I-85 interchange at Grover.
The 39 miler was also improved to feature some more interesting roads, and took advantage
of Unity Church Rd which was recently paved.
Special thanks to Jim Weant for organizing the event, marking the courses, &
providing SAG. Also volunteering were Paula Weant, Nancy Dartnall, Charlene Angel, Kim
Andersen, Leane Dow, & Steve Overstreet.
Comments from the ride: Great Ride. I did the 40 mile. The sag checked on me several times. I may be slow but? The lovely Kim followed me about 10 miles to the end. I plan to see you next year. I drove from Winston Salem to do this. No rides this time of the year. Thank You
